This site was created to keep everyone informed on the progress my Dad is making from his fall on August 29th. For those unaware, my Dad fell down a flight of stairs during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 29th. He sustained a fracture at C2, three thoracic spine fractures (T3, T4, and T6), and two rib fractures. The fracture at C2 was not bad but the bigger issue was the existing cervical spinal stenosis. From the impact of the fall, it put pressure on the spinal cord resulting in weakness/numbness in his upper and lower extremities.  Fortunately, it was not a complete spinal injury and he's made significant progress since the initial fall. He is now walking about 50 steps (assisted) and regaining more strength in his arms and hands. With this condition, the legs are the first to come back and the arms/hands last so the fact that he's already moving his arms up and down and closing his hands is very encouraging.

He was transferred from INOVA Fairfax to INOVA Mount Vernon Rehab on September 7th where he will be for the next several weeks. The rehab timeline is different for everyone but we're hoping with his progress to date we can get him discharged by September 24th for Pat's Q. This remains his goal and he's very determined to be there! We are very hopeful for a full recovery but it will certainly be a long road ahead. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers, we are grateful! We will try to update this site daily so everyone can check in on his improvement and will make it a bit easier for Chris/Eric to keep everyone in the loop.
