Tom has been sick for quite a few months, November 2016 is the month that stands out most. He has had indigestion, heartburn, and an uncomfortable heaviness in his chest area since at least then. Unfortunately his doctor treated it as indigestion and viruses all these months. Well, on June 20, 2017 our worst fear was confirmed when the endoscopy revealed a large tumor in his esophagus. The biopsy results two days later, June 22, confirmed it is a Adenocarcinoma, cancerous tumor in the lower part of his esophagus. Needless to say we are numb from the news. We are exploring the options available but still need more information regarding his condition.


It has been a struggle to get doctors to listen and act but finally they did. 


On June 30th Tom had a PET/CT Fusion Scan to determine if the cancer is in any other organs or tissue. We do not have the results of that yet. On July 10th we have an appointment scheduled with the Medical Director of Oncology who is also the specialist in esophageal cancer at 
INOVA Fairfax Hospital. There will be a Radiation oncologist and surgeon at the meeting as well. That will be our first meeting to discuss treatment options. THANK YOU Delores Gehr for arranging this for us! You are an incredible friend and we appreciate you more than you know.
