Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. On October 10th Tom got diagnosed with liver and colon cancer. We met with with an oncologist on October 26th that told us that chemotherapy would so negatively affect his quality of life that he did not recommend it. Tom took the news stoically. We were not surprised at what the doctor said, but still hard to hear that he has 3-6 months to live. I thought it might me easiest to update this website to keep you all updated. He is feeling OK and awake most of the day. Please call if you would like. He only likes to talk about 15 minutes at a time. I (Mary) am taking a break from working to stay with him. We have an appointment with the Mayo Hospice providers next Tuesday 11/1. We are trying to stay with Tom around the clock until he no longer can get around the house. Sheri stayed with him last week (she really is an angel in case you were wondering!) We will be hiring some home health care people to come in when I can't be here. Tom and I would love it if anybody wanted to stop in for a couple of hours so that I can run some errands or if you would like to stay overnight. He is easy to care for and up for a good chat. Let me know by email or this website.
