Welcome to Tom's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Monday, June 12th, Tom was diagnosed with a Cavernous Malformation in the right parietal lobe of his brain.  Tom experienced a seizure after working out at the gym that landed him in the emergency room.    A subsequent MRI and CT Scan found the malformation which was probably there since birth.   It's about the size of a quarter.   Although not inherently serious, it could lead to epilepsy if not removed.  Fortunately the malformation is close to the outer surface of the brain so there will be minimal affect to the surrounding brain tissue.   He is scheduled to have surgery on June 29th and will be in ICU over that weekend.  He is scheduled to be on short term disability for approx 6 weeks.

If you know Tom, you know that sitting still for 6 minutes let alone 6 weeks will drive him nuts, so this will be a challenge for him.  He can't drive, do any physical activity other than walk and, most importantly, he can't drink beer until he is cleared by the doctor.
