Well the morning I feel is off to a good start.  He was sleeping yesterday when I briefly stopped in. So nothing to report.
This morning when I stopped in, he woke and the trauma doctor team stopped in.  He is breathing on his own.  I didn’t ask about movement on the left.  I forgot but his mother reported some on Saturday.
He was definitely aware and trying to communicate.  The most alert I have seen him.  He is not using the vent and breathing on his own but of course has the trach still.  So he was mouthing words, using his eyes, right arm and leg to communicate.  I gave him a pencil and paper.  He grabbed the paper out of my hand to position it so he could write on it.  He scribbled a question…not sure exactly what he was saying but asking a question and what I “think”…..I could read that word and the question mark. With follow up questions, I think it was about where he is headed next.
He smiled along with the light hearted jokes/convos.  That sarcastic guy is 100% still there.  He laughed when I said I was the sane member of the family.  I am not sure if that was in agreement or mocking me.
He had a temp of 99 as he is fighting infection.  He got sepsis but they (infectious doctor called in) identified what was causing it.  They adjusted the antibiotic treatment to fight what he’s got and he is responding well. I think we are a couple/few days into treating it.
PT and OT have been working with him.  He is ready to transition in a Long Term Care hospital (L-TACH – Long Term Acute Care Hospital).  The case worker explained she started that process on Friday so could move in the next few days.  There he will get more rehab that he needs.  His mother looked at options with case worker and requested him to go to one down in Victorian Village so when I find out more, I will of course pass along.
He responded yes to wanting the tv on to comedy central 😊  
Thanks again for all the many prayers, thoughts, good vibes and love being sent! Definitely is floating us through this crazy journey this guy is taking us on.
