Following a blood draw on January 9, 2019, Tobis was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He had been experiencing a persistent headache accompanied by "thumping" in his ears. The blood test revealed that his hemoglobin was dangerously low (4.6) and was immediately given 2 units of blood via a transfusion followed by 2 additional units on January 10th. He is now hospitalized for a minimum 4 weeks and began an aggressive chemotherapy regimen today (January 18th). The doctors anticipate that he will need a second round of chemotherapy about 6 weeks after this first completion followed by a bone marrow transplant. As much as we would love to individually provide updates to our friends and family, we acknowledge that for now keeping everyone up-to-date through this site is our most realistic option.
