Hi Friends and Family. We hope all is well for you. As many of you are aware, Megan is pregnant and due with a baby girl, Tinsley Haddan in early April. We found out in early January 2017 our baby girl has an extremely rare heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Tinsley has underdevelopment of her left ventricle of her heart. Due to the severity of HLHS, surgery will be required soon after birth. She will undergo three heart surgeries; one about a week after birth, one about six months old, and one about three years old. The ultimate goal of the series of surgeries would be a happy and growing girl and one that can have a seemingly similar childhood to others around her.
The plan is for Megan to deliver Tinsley in Charleston at Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital (MUSC) and Tinsley will have her surgeries there as well. We have learned so much and are still learning about HLHS and the road ahead of us. There is much know for what will be required and how much is out of our control. We trust that God has ultimate control and we praise him for the skills of doctors and medicine.
We ultimately praise God for the path we are walking with our sweet girl. Along the way we learning to pray and trust in Christ more deeply. We pray for a miracle everyday, perhaps that her heart will miraculously heal itself prior to birth. We pray for continued health for Megan. We lift up the doctors and other specialists that will be in our lives the next several years. It has been amazing to us how many people we know of that have prayed in some way for this situation; we know there are many others we don't know about as well. The thought of our daughter suffering is difficult to grasp but knowing what God's own son did for humanity causes us to trust him greater. We may not like or see the plan now but we know he is Lord of all. We are thankful for a Savior and the hope that he provides for all.
One of us will do our best to periodically update this site throughout this journey. Please know we may not immediately personally respond to you when you reach out, we are still very thankful to hear the words you have to share.
