Hi Friends and Family. We hope all is well for you. As many of you are aware, Tinsley is about to experience her third open heart surgery. After being born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), Tinsley underwent one open heart surgery at five days old, and another at six months old. Thanks to your prayers and the amazing doctors and nurses of MUSC, Tinsley did wonderfully with both surgeries. We have had some hiccups along the way, but overall, Tinsley has done beautifully these last three years.
This surgery, called the Fontan, should help make Tinsley's heart stronger, give her more energy, and increase her oxygen levels so that she is not as fragile when she gets sick. Even though she has done so well, we expect this to be a very difficult surgery for her. First of all, she is old enough to understand some, but not all of what is going on. Second, she will be a part from her brothers due to Covid policies for her entire hospital stay. While we are very thankful that she will be able to have both of her parents at all times, we know she will struggle being apart from her best friends. We are also concerned for her mental health, as she is not old enough to completely process all that her body will be going through.
We ultimately praise God for the path we are walking with our sweet girl. Along the way we are learning to pray and trust in Christ more deeply. We pray for a miracle everyday. We lift up the doctors and other specialists that have been in our lives for several years. It has been amazing to us how many people we know of that have prayed in some way for this situation; we know there are many others we don't know about as well. The thought of our daughter suffering is difficult to grasp but knowing what God's own son did for humanity causes us to trust him greater. We may not like or see the plan now but we know he is Lord of all. We are thankful for a Savior and the hope that he provides for all.
