Hi dear family and friends. My difficult journey started in 2003 when my pancreas decided that it no longer liked me. Doctor visits and hospitals became a new way of life. I found out that I am a cystic fibrosis gene carrier causing this malady. Several surgeries later my pancreas has decided that it's had enough. So have I. My surgeon Dr. Gus Attwell with the Univ. of Colorado Medical Center in Denver and I decided that the next step is necessary. I was referred to Dr. Greg Beilman with the University of Minneapolis Medical Center. He is the worlds foremost leader in total pancreatectomies with islet cell transplants. Sandy and I flew up to Minneapolis and discussed this procedure and his awesome team. We immediately felt at ease and agreed that this is the right thing to do. My surgery is scheduled for Monday January 7th. Of course I'm anxious and nervous but I have faith that the quality of my life will be restored by my decision.
