Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Three days after McKoy & Steph's Aug 13th amazing, wonderful, and "best day ever" wedding, I went in for a surgical consult for an abdominal mass that I had been monitoring much of the summer and initially saw an internist for on August 2nd.  The August 16th appointment was the beginning of a completely unexpected journey...  Tuesday, Aug 16 the surgeon scheduled me for a CT scan, which indicated a number of issues they didn't like, among them fluid around my liver and abdomen, the abdominal mass itself, and some distinct markings on my liver.  Wednesday, Aug 17 I started my day with a  needle biopsy of the mass, and Thursday, Aug 18 ended my day with a full PET scan. the results of which we got on Friday Aug 19 (our 27th wedding anniversary, by the way) and long story short those results confirmed a stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis.  We did have a follow up, second opinion appointment with a colon-rectal oncology surgery specialist at the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis, and  confirmed our course of treatment which starts tomorrow with Chemo Treatment #1 of 12 over the next 6 months.

The first 13 days of this journey have been the craziest whirlwind and the most emotional rollercoaster we've ever experienced.  We have experienced the full range of emotions, from shock, fear, sadness, a little self-pity, anger, and we have now shifted into FIGHT MODE, where we intend to stay until we come out on the other end of this battle victorious over this opponent... who by the way, picked on the wrong chick and my army of prayer warriors.  The outpouring of PRAYERS, support, encouragement, kindness, motivation, offers of help, and unconditional LOVE have already been absolutely overwhelming - we always knew we've surrounded ourselves with amazing family and friends, but sometimes you don't realize how far-reaching, numerous, and deep those relationships and networks truly run until we're faced with a challenge that "rallies the troops" around us.  We are enveloped in love and support and immersed in Faith and throwing ourselves into our Savior's loving arms.

"Do not worry about your life... Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?... Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things!"
- Matthew 6:25-32
