November 5: Tom is doing better. His diet switched from liquid to solid food, and his appetite is good. He slept well, getting two hours of deep sleep this afternoon. He continues to be on a low does medication to support his heart. Until he goes 24 hours without any heart support medication, he will not be able to transfer from the ICU to a recovery unit. If and when he does transfer to a recovery unit, a cardio team will evaluate his ability to undergo further procedures. If and when he regains his strength, a hematology team will consider scheduling the liver biopsy, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, November 2. A cardiologist read his latest echocardiogram this afternoon, and notes the right side of his heart is enlarged due to having to pass fluids. However, he believes Tom's condition is headed in the right direction -- albeit slowly. Stay tuned for further updates.
