Tom began his life in Chicago, Illinois. Born the second child of four children. His mom died at 32 of alcoholism. His brother died of cancer at 37. His dad died of some type of cancer next. His first wife died of breast cancer at 40. Tom and I went to high school together. In 1993 we had our 25 year class reunion in Chicago. A mutual friend had us speak on the phone prior to the reunion. Tom was a broken man with a 10 year old daughter. My heart went out to them. I quit my job in California and few back to Chicago for 6 weeks until it was time to go home. Tom and his daughter came with me. They didn't want me to leave but I had a family I needed to go home to. Here we are, 23 years later, and still together. It wasn't love at first sight. It wasn't lust at first sight. I believed then and believe now that the good Lord put us together. Tom is fighting the battle of his life now with small cell lung cancer. It will never go into remission, it will never go away. He was diagnosed in March 2016. He has had 6 rounds of chemo that didn't work. He is now on a new chemo that we hope works to give him more time.
