Welcome to our attempt to embrace the overwhelming and empowering swell of support expressed in ways that have already had a positive impact on our feelings about this unfortunate development in what has been a 2.5 year battle with colo-rectal cancer. I am stage 4 and it is considered incurable, so all our efforts are directed at extending life, and quality of life. Part of this effort is reaching for a balance - between facing the disease head-on and maintaining a needed separation from it so it does not define me. Mindfulness, and being in control of as much as we can, is critical. So I hope this will allow me to respect friends' wishes to know how things are going - something for which I am extremely grateful - while allowing me the guilt-free flexibility to acknowledge when I need distance.
