Hello all.  We have decided that this is the best way to help keep family and friends involved and up to date, without inundating ourselves.   While Tim does not like the feeling of being an "open book," we realize that open communication is the best way to bring us your love, support and especially prayers, as we navigate the path ahead.

Tim has had throat pain, coupled with tenderness and swelling,  on and off for months.  He has seen his general practitioner each time, and has had antibiotics prescribed.  This has worked for a short time,  only for symptoms to return several weeks later.  His GP finally ordered a CT scan of Tim's neck.

Tim had the scan the afternoon of Jan. 9, and received a phone call the next morning saying that he had a "concerning mass" and should follow up with the ENT.  The earliest appointment for the ENT was 8:30 on Friday, Jan. 13.  At that time Tim was told that Dr. Chang , the ENT, was 85% positive that  Tim has throat cancer.  Dr. Chang said that he would personally contact a Head and Neck oncologist at the University of Virginia (UVA).  We are glad to be referred here, as they are an exceptional hospital, well known for its teaching and treatment facilities.

We are currently waiting for UVA to call with an appointment time for Tim to have a biopsy done.  This will confirm (or hopefully dismiss) the ENT's diagnosis, as well as provide us with more information and courses for treatment.  We plan to treat this aggressively and positively.  We realize that attitude plays a large role in this.  So please, refrain from saying that you are sorry.  This is definitely not something we expected or wanted, but truly feel that we need to remain uplifted and carry on as "normally" as we can.

As we explained to Caitlin, Jillian and Seth when we initially discussed this, Tim and I are both fighters and are WAY too competitive to lose, especially with this!  And as a very loved friend reminded us, God has a plan for us all and this will be part of Tim's testimony.  Thank you all for being part of our community.
