This website includes archives of Tom's heart journey beginning in 2013 as recorded on his carepage.  Carepages will no longer be available after 10/31/17, so here we are at CaringBridge with Tom's new, and final, chapter.


Through several serious health challenges, including myelodysplastic syndrome and pericarditis (2013), heart failure and bypass surgery (2014), and increased transfusion burden with his MDS (2015), Tom has continued to "roll with the punches" (his words) and keep on enjoying life thanks to innovative treatment options.  Having just received news (October 19, 2017) that his MDS has now progressed to AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia), it is time to acknowledge that all treatment possibilities have been exhausted and he is journeying quickly toward his heavenly home.  This journal will be an opportunity for us to keep you apprised of his situation during this tender time.  We hope you will find encouragement and peace, as we hope for the same through writing updates and reading posts from you.

As a child, Tom would relish hearing his father's bedtime stories which usually involved colorful descriptions of his travels around the world.  When he was four, Tom was given a book detailing many of the amazing places across the globe, and he would read this book and dream about having adventures of his own in as many of these places as possible.  Now, at age 81, Tom has a vast and varied list of places he has been.    But his ultimate adventure still awaits, and with it, a happy reunion with those who have gone before.  In faith we cling to that hope! 


Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Tom as he prepares for this, his final journey, and for Marilyn, his bride of 54 years, spending precious time with him before his departure.
