Hello everyone: This is my visual journey from Multiple Myeloma - Chemo - Transplant.
I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma on my birthday, June 8th, 2016.
It all started with a visit to the Dr. for a cold and pain in my lower back that would not go away and voila, there it was, the C word. Little did I know that the pain I felt in my lower back would turn out to be cancer. During the next few weeks I underwent numerous tests to confirm what the Dr's already knew. I soon found out that I had Multiple Myeloma which is a blood cancer that affects your bone marrow. I immediately realized that I had a long journey in front of me and that journey would include having a Bone Marrow transplant. I started my Chemo Therapy soon after on June 27th.
As it turns out, I found out that I would best benefit to recover from my cancer by undergoing 2 transplants. The first would be an Autologous (my own stem cells) transplant and the second an Allogeneic (donor stem cells). That meant finding a donor who would be a match.
With God's grace, I was given the news that my sister Sonia was a perfect match!
Forward three months later, I am now ready to have my first (Autologous) bone marrow transplant. The second will be in a few months.
This is my journey. I choose to share it with those that are closest to my heart.
I am not a poet, but I leave you with this.....
