Hello friends. We are glad that you are visiting our site. We wanted to give everyone a little history.
I, Rachel, was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse as a teenager. About 3 years ago, my doctor referred me to a cardiologist who has been monitoring my murmur. This past January, I was referred to a valve specialist. The specialist saw me in June 2018 and quickly recommended surgery for mitral valve prolapse repair. I have bileaflet mitral valve prolapse with severe regurgitation and am told that this needs to get repaired now before it gets any worse.
The specialist in Chattanooga wanted me to have the surgery done at a mitral valve repair center. After many months of ironing out details and referrals, I am headed to Mount Sinai Mitral Valve Repair Center in New York City with Dr. David Adams and his team.
My husband, Wade, and my mother, Ginny, will be traveling with me. We will be leaving November 3. Pretesting is scheduled for November 6. Surgeon consult is scheduled for November 7. Surgery is scheduled for November 8. I will be in the hospital 5-7 days and will stay in the city for a one week follow up after hospital discharge. We are scheduled to return home on November 21.
Our 2 younger children, Judd and Georgia Mae, will be staying home with Wade’s parents, Robert and Sybil. Our oldest daughter, Shayla, and her husband, Kam, will be helping out at home too.
