About 6 weeks ago, dad started complaining of his elbow hurting. He thought he had strained it lifting a weight, which sounded somewhat odd to me knowing how strong TLR is! He went to his orthopedic doctor and they suggested therapy and a follow-up visit in 4 weeks. On Labor Day, the pain had increased to the point that dad requested a trip to the ER. After a CAT scan and X-ray, it was determined he needed to be admitted to the hospital for further examination.
Initially, it was determined that there was a mass in his arm that had ultimately fractured his elbow. After several tests and at least a dozen specialists, everyone was fairly confident we were dealing with some form of cancer that probably initiated in the lung and had metastasized throughout the body. Multiple Myeloma was ruled out and a subsequent brain scan came back clear. There was also a scope and biopsy of the lung and this evening we received confirmation that we are facing Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
In addition to Chemo beginning as soon as possible, Dad still has a great deal of intense pain in his right arm. We are seeing an orthopedic oncologist Wednesday morning and hoping to get some sort of relief. In the meantime, we appreciate your support and prayers as we navigate through this challenging time.
We are aware that many have faced this sort of adversity with many different results, but know that God is good. We know He answers prayers and still performs miracles and although God does not always provide us with the answer we want, we know He loves us and we trust in Him.
Please pray for peace, support and strength for Dad and the family as we fight this battle. Dad is a tough, stubborn old dude and I have no doubt he overcomes this too!
