Last week of June 2016. Mama was complaining of swelling in her gum so she went to see her dentist, Dr. Lo. He found an infection on the right side of the gum and gave her antibiotics.
July 4 holiday weekend. We were in Toronto to drop off Ben and Angie at Camp Ekon (week long overnight summer camp). Mama's main health issue was the side effect of the antibiotic she was given by the dentist (diarrhea).
July 9-10 weekend. She was still complaining of some pain and swelling in her gums.
July 26. Gi brought Mama to the emergency room at the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital. There was a growth and pain on her left neck and lower cheek. They gave Mama IV pain meds. She had head and neck CT scan and was scheduled for biopsy. Went back home.
July 28. Biopsy was done on her neck and nose. We were told that results will be out in 2 weeks.
August 8. Just as Gi was rushing to leave the office to catch her train home, she got a call from Dr. Kus (otolaryngologist). Stage 2 Nose and Neck Lymphoma.
Next steps - referral to an oncologist, CT scan of chest and abdomen to see if cancer has spread. Most likely treatment - radiation and chemotherapy.
