In October, Teri was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma – breast cancer. As we all know, October is breast cancer awareness month. Teri’s purpose in sharing her story is to encourage other women to take care of themselves and get checked out.
Teri’s road to recovery will begin with a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in December. After surgery, Teri will undergo 5 months of chemotherapy treatments. If the cancer has spread to the sentinel lymph node, she will also need daily radiation. Teri had shared that she is a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation that runs in her Ereth family. Because of this, her risk of developing ovarian cancer is high. A subsequent surgery will be scheduled to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes. Although Teri’s journey will be difficult and trying, we know she is a fighter who will win this battle.
Teri will use this CaringBridge site to update family and friends on her journey. Teri and her family appreciate your support and words of encouragement. For more information and how you can join #TeamTeri, visit www. gofundme.com/teamteriereth.
