September and October of 2017 are a time our family will never forget.
On September 11th I was in yoga class going from a high-to-low plank and rolled over what felt like a piece of pea gravel in my right armpit. Knowing that it wasn't normal, I called my Primary Care Physician. On September 13th, the Primary Care Physician told me I had an infected cyst in my armpit and put me on antibiotics. I did indeed have an infection which cleared up on antibiotics, but the lump in my armpit had grown in size an remained after the antibiotics were gone. This lump kick-started a series of increasingly scary doctor's appointments, Ultrasounds, Biopsies, Scans, and Surgeries spanning the following weeks. On October 9th I was told that I had Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. On October 25th we learned that I have Hodgkin Lymphoma and in Stage II of the disease.
Luckily for us the cancer has been caught relatively early. None of my organs or bone marrow have been affected and Hodgkins is a very treatable cancer. The plan right now is that I will be undergoing 6 months of Chemotherapy with routine PET Scans and check-in's with my Oncologist.
We feel so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by an amazingly supportive community of friends, family, and doctors, and have been so humbled by the love and care shown toward our family.
My goal in sharing my "Cancer Journey" is that it brings light to someone else's life journey, that a lesson is learned or shared and may help someone else going through a rough time. Life throws curve balls at each of us, but we're all in it together. Thank you for reading and allowing me to share the journey with you .
