When Brock and I first met Dean over 4 1/2 years ago at Serenity Church, he was most commonly referred to as "Lean Dean the recovery machine." Although that title still accurately describes him, he has come to mean so much more to our family! Dean moved in with us in November 2016 and was a daily part of our family for about eight months. God provided him an opportunity to move in June of this year and although we were excited for him, we were going to miss seeing him every day. Our children enjoyed spending time with him, and our four grandbabies had fallen head over heels in love with Dean . A few weeks before he moved out he started having some sinus issues. He would wake up with swelling on the left side of his face on some mornings , tenderness in the sinus area, and occasional problems with his ears. After he got settled and moved he went to see his doctor and was treated with two strong rounds of antibiotics, but nothing seemed to help. I remember the Saturday afternoon before church when he came to tell us that the ENT specialist had done a Ct scan and it showed a mass in his cheek. He said they had scheduled a biopsy and it would take several days to get the results. We told him that he would not have to go through this alone and that his room was still here and he was welcome to come back at any time. In August of this year Dean was officially diagnosed with stage 4 sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (S.N.U.C. For short). He will be moving back in with us in the coming week as we finally have a treatment plan. I haven't decided yet if this blog is for me or for Dean. I suppose it should be for all of us. Just in the past few weeks of this journey I've learned so much more about him. I have learned so much more about our precious Heavenly Father! This is a journey of unconditional love, Amazing courage, Miracles, and the hodgepodge group of people that God has surrounded this amazing man with to walk this journey alongside him… Dean's Tribe!
