Mason Bertone Team Bertone

This Caring Bridge has been created so that people may stay updated on Mason's condition. Loni is family to our skating community and we all want to know what's happening and how we can help. This site will serve as a place people can go to stay updated on how Mason is doing, and what they can do to help Loni and her family during this difficult time.

On the evening of May 1st, our friends,  the Bertones, brought their son, Mason to the emergency room. In the ER they did a chest xray that found Mason had a partially collapsed lung. A chest tube was put in at the emergency room to help remove the air pocket behind his lung and then Mason was transferred via ambulance to Lurie Children’s at Central DuPage Hospital.

Monday, May 3rd Mason had a cat scan of his chest to see exactly what caused the lung to collapse. It was at this time the doctors informed the family that Mason has several masses on and inside both of his lungs. Throughout the week, Mason went through multiple scans, tests and a biopsy.

On May 8th, Mason was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma.

Monday, May 10, Mason received  his first round of chemotherapy and will continue every two weeks if his body is able.

The Bertones have a long road ahead of them; your prayers, love, and support are much appreciated during this time.
