Taysom John was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect at 21 weeks of development. At that point OMC transferred us over to the Mayo Clinic for the rest of our pregnancy. This is when they found out that he had Transposition of the Great Arteries. 4 weeks later at our next fetal echo they also found that he has a Coarctation of Aorta. Taysom was born via c-section on 1/25/2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Immediately after being born he was taken to the room next door by the doctors to have an echocardiogram and X-ray done. From there they took him straight to the cath lab to make the hole he has between his upper two chambers of his heart slightly bigger so that he would have a higher percentage of blood and oxygen mixture; this way they wouldn’t have to do immediate open heart surgery. After studying the echocardiogram, X-rays and CT scans the cardiologist determined that this procedure would be a lot more high risk than they first anticipated. This is when they decided Taysom’s best chance for a successful surgery would be to transfer him to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. We have created this Caring Bridge site to help keep our family and friends updated on Taysom’s journey through this difficult time. We thank everybody for the continued love and prayers.
