For those who don't know me, I'm Mel, Tammy's daughter. You all know her as Tammy. I know her as mom, so that's who she will be referred to from here out. Here's the beginning of mom's story:
Shortly before Christmas (2015), mom went in for a routine mammogram. She had a repeat scan performed on January 20th as the first scan showed a spot on her left breast. During the repeat scan, the doctor was concerned about the contrast of a mass in her left breast and ordered an ultrasound core biopsy to be performed January 27th. During the procedure, they took five "core" samples of the mass. Mom handled the procedure like a pro (not surprising) and aside from some minimal bruising had very little side effects. She and I celebrated her bravery with a few margaritas. Don't worry, grandma was there to supervise! She was told she could call for results on Friday, January 29th but that they would likely not have them until the following Monday.
On January 29th, 2016, cancer entered mom's life. She was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, a form of breast cancer. Not an ideal diagnosis, but nothing that could stop her from celebrating her grandson Dawson's 12th birthday that night.
This page is being created to update family and friends throughout mom's journey. She has a lot of people offering support and she wants to ensure everyone is kept up-to-date throughout her fight. There aren't enough hours in the day to call, text, email everyone who cares. This page will serve that purpose.
