In late August, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. For those of you who are not familiar with the stages, they are 0,1,2,3 & 4, so you can see that we caught it reasonably early, which gave me lots of options. Since I was under 40 when diagnosed, I took the genetic testing and thankfully I tested negative for all of the genetic markers. That was the best news and I was so happy and relieved to hear it! I had lots of tests, including ultrasound biopsies and MRI biopsies and found that my right side had benign tumors that we don't need to worry about. That leaves us with my left side to address. It appears that it has not moved into my lymph nodes yet, but we will know for sure once the surgery is complete. After a few weeks of testing, we finalized a plan to get me back on track and in good health again. The first stop is surgery. I will be at Wellstar Kennestone on 10/30 for a 7:30am surgery. They anticipate that it will take about 12 hours for the surgery, so we will be sure to post updates. I will be in ICU for about 3 days and they anticipate I can come home Friday. After surgery, we will consider further treatment if it is necessary and will be able to provide more details at that time. I am confident that everything will go well and I will have this little bump in the road behind me in no time.
I am blessed to have an amazing support system. My daughter, family, friends and business partners have all helped to make this process so much easier for me. I am surrounded by love and people who want to help. I am truly blessed more than words can say.
