Sydney was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, which is a type of childhood bone cancer. We found it very early. If it hadn't been for her complaining about what was a pulled muscle in her back side we would of never have found the lesion that was in a completely different area. When it was first spotted in July, it was too small to biopsy and did not show the typical alarming signs. When we went back in October to check it again it had only grown a very small amount but her doctor decided we needed to do further testing. Even after the biopsy was performed he did feel it was something we needed to be concerned about. It wasn't until the pathology reports came back on November 23rd that we found out what it was .
The first thing her doctor said to us was "I'm not sure who have upstairs but someone is definitely looking out for you".
We checked into CHOC on November 29th to complete the needed testing to determine our path of treatment.
For those of you that know Syd well, know she is a tenacious, strong willed, outgoing girl. She is not afraid to try new things and has never met a stranger. She will address this like she does life with faith, grace, strength and a little humor.
