Welcome to Susie's CaringBridge website. I (Annelise) will be using this site to keep friends and family updated throughout Mom's journey. We found out on July 20th that mom had been diagnosed with rectal cancer. She went in for a colonoscopy thinking that she would learn that she had IBS or something similar that was not life-threatening. Soon after the colonoscopy (mom is still loopy from anesthesia) the doctor comes in and tells mom and dad that she has a cancerous tumor in the rectum and that there is cancer in the lymph nodes surrounding the colon. There were a few small spots on her lungs, but the doctor did not seem to be as worried with those at the time since the natural progression of this cancer is from the rectum to the liver and then to the lungs. Thankfully, her liver was clean. The doctors were very aggressive and want to begin chemo as soon as possible. Mom will meet with the oncologist on Wednesday (7/26)  to find out the plan of action. After chemo, she will start radiation. Once her body has healed from the radiation, she will have the tumor and lymph-nodes surgically removed.  After the removal, she will do a follow-up round of chemo to ensure that this nasty disease is out of her body.  


The Brown Family is blown away by the outpouring of love that we have received from each of you already. We have a long road ahead, so we would appreciate the continued prayers along the way. We serve a mighty God and we know that He has a plan for all of this.
