Welcome to Susan's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

As most of you know, Susan's health has been declining for quite some time.  In the fall of 2016, Susan was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver due to NASH, or non-alcoholic steatohepatits and fatty liver disease.  She began having major complications in June which included blood clots, bleeding, increased fatigue, and confusion.  We were told 2 weeks ago that she was not a candidate for a liver  transplant.

Thanks to some very special people, arrangements were made for Susan to be evaluated by the liver transplant program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.  We met with a wonderful team Wednesday which included the Chief of Hepatology and Liver Transplantation, a transplant surgeon, nurses, coordinators, social worker, physical therapist,  and dietician.

Susan is now beginning the extensive testing and evaluation process to determine if her body is strong enough to undergo transplantation.  Right now Susan's main goals are building up her strenght and nutritional status to prepare her body for a liver transplant. Please keep Susan and Rick in your prayers during this  journey.
