In 2014, Susan was diagnosed with a rare and incurable cancer, Leiomyosarcoma. She has fought with grace and determination for nearly eight years, enduring numerous clinical trials and the effects of nearly constant chemotherapy. In April, Susan was diagnosed with treatment-related acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This was a blow but Susan embraced the treatment and kept her spirits high as she faced another incurable cancer and more difficult treatment. She has been hospitalized for nearly three of the last five weeks and is incredibly weak.
Susan is now at a point that additional treatment is not an option. The sarcoma is beginning to grow and the AML is wreaking havoc with her white blood cells. She has made the difficult decision to leave the hospital and go home with the assistance of BJC Hospice. We'll keep you updated here with how she's doing and what she needs. In the meantime, she will need your good thoughts, prayers, and assistance as she enters this difficult period.
