Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Susanna was born on July 30, 2010.  She has an older brother and sister, and one younger sister (Abel, Natalie, and Hayley).  Her parents (Melissa and Nathan) have been married since 2005 and currently live in Nacogdoches, TX.  We are very committed and serious Christians.

A few months after we moved to Texas from Colorado Susanna (age 7 at the time) started complaining of back pain, which got worse over time.  By mid September 2017 she could not sleep through the night because of the pain.  When we took her to the doctor, she was in so much pain they could not do an exam, and even the x-rays showed nothing.  In our brainstorming of what to do for her, we thought she might have pulled muscle or pinched nerve or something, so took her to a chiropractor.  He noticed one major issue: foot drop.  She was unable to lift her left foot, and her whole left leg was numb.  That explained why she was always tripping and falling over!  We thought she was just clumsy.  Numbness is a major concern that needs immediate action, so we took her to the ER of Texas Children's Hospital in Houston that same day.

The MRI they did revealed a large tumor in her spinal cord, and they did emergency surgery to remove it the next morning.  That was October 2, 2017.
