As I come out of my cancer journey fog, it's time to update my story.  I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer early June of 2017. My hormone driven type of cancer is only 20% of all breast cancers. It is a fast growing cancer and reoccurrence is higher than other breast cancers. I had lymph node involvement but blessed to be able to say it had not metastized to other area, as far as we know. I had lymph nodes taken and a port put in for chemo in July, then went through 6 treatments of chemo through last summer and into fall. I then had my bilateral ( both breasts) mastectomy on Nov. 29, with no reconstruction. I went through an interesting process of deciding to go flat and be a part of "flat nation" as they call it. I am still recovering from surgery but overall doing fairly well. Next up is 6 more months of infusion hormone blocking drugs,every three weeks,radiation on one side every day for33 days, then follow up with hormone blocking meds, pill form for 5 years. That's the western medicine side. I am actively doing many alternative therapies as well including working on my chronic 20 year sleep deprivation, which I am certain has played a fairly significant role in my inability to fight Cancer cells from multiplying in my body. There are always silver linings to any hardship we go through. I have found many along the way and know there will be more. Don't get me wrong, cancer will never be a gift, but we can persevere, learn from it, or we can sit down and die. I choose to live and am blessed in many many ways.
