2012 has definitely not been the best year. It has been unbelievable to me--and to a lot of people who know and love me. In January, I had surgery to remove my gall bladder, which was not a surprise as I've had issues with it for years. In early March, I started having pain in my abdomen. After lots of tests and lots of pain, I thought what I needed was a full hysterectomy. But when I met with a gynecologic oncologist—and after they drained 7 pounds of liquid from my abdomen—she was pretty certain that I had ovarian cancer.
On March 29, I had a six-hour surgery, and their suspicions were confirmed ... it was ovarian cancer. I had a full hysterectomy, and the surgeon removed all of the tumors in my abdomen. I was in the hospital for six days. Two weeks after I was released from the hospital, I started chemotherapy on April 18.
