Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
In July 2016 Stevie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma bone cancer in the left pelvis.  It was diagnosed as stage IV disease due to metastasis in the lungs in a few spots.  She immediately started chemotherapy and was due to have surgery in October 2016.  However, the decision to amputate your left pelvis is not an easy one, and we tried to search for alternate methods of treatment to try to save her pelvis.  The good thing about chemo is that it always took her pain away, so while we strayed from chemotherapy two separate times for three months each, we always returned to chemo to take the pain away.
In the fall of 2017 we decided to proceed with the hemi-pelvectomy and have been meeting with surgeons ever since to get the surgery scheduled.  We finally now have a date of January 22, 2018 for surgery at Northwestern in downtown Chicago.  We look forward to beginning the next chapter of her journey.  To get this cancer out of her body, and to begin to heal.  She will have a long recovery to learn to walk again, and still another surgery to remove the spots in her lungs.  But I have no doubt she will be an amazing inspiration to other osteosarcoma kids in the future.  She will get through this with determination and laughter, as she always does.  So proud of my girl.                 Julie Anderson  1/11/18
