On January 31st around 2am, Steve had fallen in the bathroom and broke his neck (C4 and C5) and was unable to get up due to loss of feeling in his arms and legs. The paramedics were called and he was taken to the ICU wherein he underwent a six hour surgery to try to fix the damage to his neck. After surgery, the surgeon had told my family the likelihood of him being permanently paralyzed from the shoulders down were great.
