Steve Thorns Steve Thorns Journey

First post: Jun 25, 2020 Latest post: Apr 10, 2022
Last Monday, June 15th, we found out that Steve has colorectal cancer. Time stopped and our world came to a halt when we received this news. Since that day, tests have revealed the cancer has not spread and is localized (thank goodness). At this time, we are working diligently with a team at Kaiser to identify and approach a treatment plan. This week, Steve has additional tests to find out more about the size and official “stage” of cancer he has.

We wanted to start this caring bridge to help keep everyone informed. Since we are in the early stages of this journey, we are in a consistent state of flux and it has become difficult to answer all the calls, texts and questions. We feel so thankful to have many wonderful people in our lives who care and support our family (and just want to help us during this difficult time). Fortunately, we have amazing support and are not in need of extra help at this moment; although, this will likely change when Steve starts treatment.

We have had a number of people forward to us very helpful and useful information regarding suggestions, articles, research and methods. So much, that it is hard to not be overwhelmed by the caring generosity of our friends and loved ones! To elaborate and fill-in those who may not know, Steve had previously adopted a plant-based diet over a year ago, and has already incorporated anti-inflammatory foods such as turmeric, broccoli and leafy greens into his normal diet. As much as he misses meat, the dietary changes were something that he had already incorporated, thankfully. Steve is looking into other suggested foods such as barley grass, alkaline water and Frankincense (Steve says this is Crystal’s witchery, but he will do it anyways), among other things.

We sincerely appreciate each and every one of our supporters and we will be sure to update this site as new information becomes available. For now, we appreciate all the love, support, prayers and good ju-ju everyone is sending.

Much Love,
Crystal, Steve and the kids

P.S. We would like to clarify the tributes icon that solicits a donation goes directly to the caring bridge site. The Thorns Family is not asking for cash donations, we are only using this site to keep everyone informed at this time.
