Hello from the Swiatek Family. We have been overwhelmed by the responses regarding my father, Stephen Swiatek, and the medical emergency he is going through at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. As such, we have decided to put together a CaringBridge site to try and keep everyone informed at once. We hope you will visit and respond often!

For those that don't know Steve suffered from a ruptured brain aneurysm on the 19th of July. He was rushed to the local hospital and then transferred to downtown Chicago for treatment. He was sedated and intubated. Last evening he had a surgical procedure to repair the aneurysm and stop the bleeding. It was very successful, but Steve continues to have a lot of swelling and blood in the brain. Today, July 20th, he is  once again breathing on his own. Thus far he is receiving round the clock care which will continue for a minimum of the next two weeks for vasospasms and possible additional strokes.

We encourage you to send well wishes and happy thoughts/prayers as responses here. At this time, my mother, Michelle Swiatek, is unable to  directly respond to all questions about my fathers health.

While we appreciate that there are a lot of people who care about Steve and wish to see him better, please use the option to share here.

At this time we are severely limiting visits as it is best for him and regulated by the hospital ICU rules.

We will continue to update everyone on the situation as it plays out. It was/is a very serious emergency but we are hopeful that he will pull through as strong as ever. Once again we greatly appreciate the support of everyone and can feel the love that everyone has for my father, Steve.

For those of you who are local and have asked what you can do to help, a meal made for 8 and delivered to our house would be phenomenal. I will coordinate for my family so please contact me (his son Jake) at 630-824-8144 . My Cousin Sarah and Aunt Ginny have put together a Meal Train to help with scheduling. If you are planning to bring something please take an extra second to update the Meal Train as well. Thank you!
