Steve Stamas

You all know and love Steve. This is a place to stay updated on his health and share your well-wishes.

Steve was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in September 2019. Since then, he has fought hard against this disease, which progressively makes breathing more difficult.

Two weeks ago things took a quick turn, causing Steve to check into the hospital on Memorial Day with pneumonia. His condition deteriorated over the following days until he was airlifted on Friday (6/4) to Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He has been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since Friday and is in relatively stable condition, but is still considered day-to-day. After getting into MGH, he has been getting stronger each day, but is still in pretty dire need of a double lung transplant. We are all hopeful that he will get the transplant, and he was put on the list on Wednesday, June 9th with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). The doctor said that he was a great candidate for the operation and he is now just waiting patiently in the ICU for new lungs and a 2nd chance at life. We will continue to update this page with any new information. If you want to write to Steve, please send it to his home address or text his cell phone. Steve very much appreciates everyone's thoughtfulness and can't wait to see everyone after the transplant. Thank you and much love.
