On August 30, 2017, on my way home from work I began having abdominal pain. I thought it was a previously diagnosed ulcer acting up. As the night went on, I knew something was definitely wrong. We went to the University of Wisconsin Hospital emergency room during the early morning hours of August 31. Several imaging tests revealed a mass in my large intestine. I had surgery that same day. The surgeon told us that the mass she removed was probably cancer. Fast forward a few weeks and we learned that I have Stage III colon cancer. I'll be starting chemotherapy through the UW Carbone Cancer Center on October 5, 2017. I would have never imagined that I would have cancer. But now that I'm here, it's time to fight this awful beast head on and show it who's boss!
