Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Steven was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) on April 30th. He had been having symptoms for about year, but testing previous was negative. His symptoms since diagnosis have progressed pretty rapidly. He is very weak (requiring help for dressing & eating), in a lot of discomfort due to spasms in his arms & legs and is having difficulty swallowing and talking at times.

There is no cure for ALS and his type is aggressive. The neurologist thinks he might have 1-3 years left, but that will also depend on if he decides on if he wants a tracheotomy and to be on a ventilator. There are are a lot of decisions left to be made.

Right now, he & Chisa are going to the Rocky Mountain ALS clinic which is run by Dr. Deitz (neurologist) and Dr. Fenton (pulmonologist). It is a team concept with respiratory, physical, occupational & speech therapies and a social worker. They are helping him with daily activities (eating, drinking, dressing, bathing, swallowing).

Steven & Chisa have tremendous faith in God and that provides them a lot of comfort in this journey. Liana and Daniel are doing well and are being kept busy by our parents and other friends.

Please, consider a donation to help them out. Steven will most likely not be returning to work in August and Chisa will be staying home to help care for him.
