On the morning of November 17, Steven had a hemorrhagic stroke. This is a kind of stroke in which a blood vessel ruptures in or near the brain, causing bleeding into the brain. We have been led to believe that Steven's stroke was caused by a spike in his blood pressure. When Jamie found Steven that morning, he was conscious and responsive. Jamie then called 911, and Steven was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by ambulance. After a quick CT scan, the staff at LMH, decided that Steven needed more intensive care and ordered for him to be life-flighted to KU Medical Center. In order to keep Steven calm and comfortable, he was sedated for his transport to KU.  As another precautionary measure, Steven was hooked up to a ventilator with a breathing tube in order to avoid the possibility of aspirating any fluids into his lungs. Steven was admitted into the ER at KU, and later moved to the Surgical/Trauma ICU, in order to rule out any possibility of head trauma. After head trauma was ruled out, Steven was transferred to the Neurology ICU.
