Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. As you may know, in 1986 I was at Lake Natoma for a Pack 10 regatta when I was bitten by a rattlesnake. I was rushed to the hospital and given an antivenin injection to which I had an allergic reaction. The medical consequences to that event resulted in exercise-induced ventricular tachycardia, a condition that has required numerous defibrillators, various medications and ablations. In spite of those efforts, the health of my heart has deteriorated over time. The weakened heart, plus the toxic effects of all those otherwise life-saving medications, has caused cirrhosis of my liver. My kidneys are also impacted. I have been referred to Stanford Medical Center for a possible heart and liver transplant. They may have to throw in a kidney or two. Who knows? The first step, which requires extensive testing and various evaluations, is to be put on the transplant list. Currently I'm following doctors orders to rest and eat well and dealing with my insurance. Carol Voyles, whom I previously coached on the Women's Intermediate Team at RCRC, has offered to set up this site and post updates on my progress or those of you who would like to have the medical updates and keep in touch . I miss seeing everybody as I have to be especially careful due to Covid. Thanks, Steve
