On Friday February 21st Steve suffered an ischematic stroke.  He received timely medical assistance and had immediate surgery to remove blood clots in his arteries leading to the brain.  Two clots were successfully removed, while a third artery had some residual clot that could not be reached.  Due to the stroke which attacked the left side of his brain, Steve has been unable to speak, eat or swallow.  The use of the right side of his body has been impaired as well.  But Steve is tough!  He’s fighting to regain the functions he has lost, and since the event, Steve has begun to get some strength back and communicate using head gestures.  He has begun to smirk, along with the twinkle that he always had in his eyes when he smiled.  Everyday Steve is improving and gaining strength, including pulling his entire body weight up using only his left hand  and holding himself up on a walker.    He has made very encouraging improvements in a very short time.  Steve’s vital signs are great and he is looking better and better each day.  He doesn’t have to verbally tell you he’s up for the fight.  You can see it in Steve’s eyes.  While he has a long road ahead of him, these improvements are vital to regaining the functions the stroke has temporarily taken away.  We are using this website to keep family and friends updated in one place.
