On Saturday August 13th Steve feel off a ladder while blackberry picking on the hill above the beach house. He was about 6ft up on the ladder, fell down hill and cracked his head on the concrete road. Mike (Cassie's boyfriend) was there with him and quickly got on the line with 911. During the wait for the aid car, Steve was unconscious for about 10 minutes and when he came to immediately said he wanted to go home and take a nap. The aid care took him directly to the Emergency Room at Harborview. From the beginning, he was able to recognize everyone who came to visit him, by name and relation etc, but his short-term memory has suffered. Over the course of the last week, Steve has made great recovery steps and even shows some signs of short-term memory coming back. We've enjoyed taking trips around the world with Steve's subconscious (Kathmandu, Africa, Naples Italy, South America for James Bond's Birthday, Canada, Lopez Island, Athens Greece etc and lots of time spent in Sun Valley) and prepared for many bike rides! All in all, he's on the road to an eventual full recovery, but it will be a long road ahead. He's been moved from Neuro ICU to Neuro Acute Care and will eventually spend time in Rehab (hopefully still at Harborview).
If you would like to visit him, his visitation schedule with some guidelines is available here:
