Welcome to Sterling's Caring Bridge website! We started this to make it easier to keep family & friends updated on how he is doing.
Sterling Jack Stenquist was born on September 30th 2016. He was 3 months early, weighing 2lb 12oz. He is currently in the Children's Hospital NICU in Minneapolis MN, and is expected to be there until around his due date, December 26th.
Sterling had surgery on his heart on October 18th, to close a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). All babies are born with a small ductus in their heart which is supposed to close shortly after birth, if the ductus doesn't close, the opening between the aorta and the pulmonary artery allows blood to recirculate into the lungs. It allows oxygen-rich blood from the aorta to mix with oxygen-poor blood from the pulmonary artery which can put strain on the heart and increase blood pressure in the lung arteries. He has been doing so much better since having the surgery and has made so much progress already. We are so proud of our little man!
