Steve Allen went into surgery for a routine, elective, minimally invasive heart valve repair. Although successful completion of repairing the valve, his lung would not clear following surgery. After days of ventilation, waiting for lung to clear, his blood pressure dropped and the pressure from blocked lung caused problems resulting in doctors putting Steve on ECMO lung/heart support to allow body rest while healing could occur.
