As most of you know, Stan was formally diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in March 2015. This diagnosis was a result of routine blood work collected during a life insurance review. Stan had no obvious symptoms and no inkling something was brewing prior to this testing. We were/are fortunate to have had his cancer detected at a relatively early stage.
Since that time, Stan has been on a multi drug chemotherapy regimen and has done very well. He has continued to work full time, lead an active lifestyle and do almost all he's always done over the years to keep our family going! For several reasons, it is now time to move to stem cell transplant.
Stan will be admitted to the hospital March 3, 2017 to receive high dose chemotherapy, wipe out his immune system and then be "rescued" by his own cells that were collected over a year ago. It is predicted he will be in the hospital for approximately three weeks and then home in three month isolation. During this time, his risk of infection will be quite high so we will have lots of food, visitor and other restrictions.
Joe and Sam are well informed and have been so supportive and helpful. It has been a lot of work getting house and mind ready. We are all anxious to get this next step behind us. We have an amazing network going here - words can not describe! Thank you!
