Welcome to Stan's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Stan has had a successful triple bypass surgery on Monday, February 28th. However he has a very weak heart and would not have survived surgery had the surgeon not put in a temporary heart pump called an Impella machine. The goal is to let his heart rest and strengthen while they weaned him off the pump. There have been some ups and downs but Stan is staying steady. We are caught in the "ICU Cha Cha" of one step forward, two steps back... Good thing Stan is such a good dancer!

He is in the ICU at Wesley Medical Center.  Please no visitors at this time but we welcome all the prayers for a strong heart, guidance for his many doctors/care team, and the whole Miller family as we walk through this unknown time.

A little back story of the road that led us to surgery:

Stan has not felt himself all of 2022 and he had been in Afib since January of 2021.  He had a annual cardiologist appointment in January and passed with flying colors, but decided to do an echo just to have a baseline. The echo showed he had cardio myopathy. His heart was only working at 30%. The doctors decided they were going to treat the Afib with an ablation to see if that would help his heart.  He headed up to Kansas City on Friday to see a doctor who ran some tests. By Tuesday, February 22, he was taken to the ER by ambulance after not being able to catch his breath. There they discovered that his lungs and gut where filled with water because of heart failure. After they removed the pressure, Stan felt so much better. They were going to release him, but test results from KC. revealed that he had blockage in his heart. They decided to put a stint in. The heart cath procedure showed three arteries blocked including the main one at the opening of the main artery ( the widow maker). Next step was his triple bypass surgery on Monday, February 28th. .
