Spencer Lunnen The Brave Little Cowboy Spencer Joel Lunnen

First post: May 1, 2020 Latest post: Nov 3, 2023
On Thursday, April 23rd Channon and Jim took their son, Spencer (4 yrs) to the ER due to severe back/abdominal pain.  They were admitted by doctors thinking it was trauma to the kidney with a bleed after a CT scan, however, there was no injury prior to Spence alerting them to his pain.  The next day doctors informed them that Spencer had a tumor in his kidney. The kidney had ruptured and had spillage (bleeding). That night they were transported to CHOC of Orange where they would do further testing of the tumor. After 7 long days of Spencer enduring and braving more tests and scans and a biopsy...Channon and Jim were hit with heavy news.  Their sweet Spencer was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Wilms Tumor. Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. It effects about 500 children per year in the country.

The plan for Spencer is to start treatment today (May 1) - Chemotherapy for two rounds prior to surgery where his entire left kidney will be removed.  Once the kidney is removed, chemo will resume for 6 to 7 months as well as a 2-week low-dose radiation to ensure the cancer is gone.

This brave little cowboy has taken all of this with so much courage and strength that even doctors have mentioned is unsurpassed for his age.  He deeply misses his brother whom is his best friend, Nash (6yrs) and is ready to return home to his bed and his dog Daisy.  Channon has been an incredibly strong and loving mother for her sweet boy at his side every minute. Jim is a pillar of love and strength that the family will continue to lean on. Nash is a loving big brother who makes him smile and laugh through all of this.  With Covid-19 this process has been much more difficult in that only one parent is allowed at the hospital and no visitors.  We ask for prayers for Spencer, Channon, Jim and Nash.

Please leave any comments here!  Channon and Jim are overwhelmed with all that is going on so leaving comments here will help rather than calling or texting them.  You can also reach out to me (Nicole Collins) with any questions or messages you would like relayed to them.

We are trusting in the Lord!  Please continue with prayer for the miraculous miracle that can still happen for Spencer Joel Lunnen!

“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.” James 5:15
