Spencer was born March 1997 and was diagnosised with Mucolipidosis Type II / III at nine months old. This is a rare genetic storage disorder that causes bone and joint pain, organ disfunction and can lead to a shortened life. There is no cure or treatment. Visit ISMRD.ORG for more info. Despite being delayed in development (mostly physical) he has thrived and accomplilshed much. He is a proud Eagle Scout. He attended Catholic school till 6th grade. He was in mainstreem education throughout middle school and is a high school graduate. He is attending University California Irvine (UCI) and just finished his second year. School has not been easy for him and he has had to drop some classess. But he has survived on his own first in the freshman dorm and then in off campus housing with roommates. He loves living on his own and taking care of himself! He is taking a temporary break from school now for heart surgery but plans to get right back to his studies as soon as he can.
