She is an honors student at Kellenberg High School and she is a member of the Kellenberg JV Cheer team, works with children at her gymnastics club, and is deep in her Catholic faith. She loves to ski, go to concerts, camping with family, and travelling.
At 15 years old, her medical journey began on February 1, 2020 with a simple doctor's visit which turned out to be a diagnosis of Leukemia. Sophia immediately began the maze of testing and treatments for B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL). Sophia will spend a great deal of time as an inpatient in the Cohen Children's Medical Center and then will continue treatment while at home. In a few short days, she has already had the major tests, a medi-port surgically installed, and began chemotherapy treatments.
She is surrounded with love and support from her mom and dad, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and school, who are all cheering her on with each leg of this multi-year journey.
The leukemia journey is filled with doctors and nurses, tests, scans, needles, medicine, noise, boredom, and a dizzying array of jargon, information, and news. It is a marathon, not a sprint.
We hope that this journal will help share what is going on with her battle against B-ALL childhood leukemia, and will eventually include resources for how you can help. Please stay with us for the long haul as we continue to help Sophia to get better. We appreciate everyone's concerns and prayers. We hope that this page will help keep everyone informed. Links to ways you can help Sophia and the family will be added in the future.

Sophia es una joven hermosa y fuerte de Long Island, Nueva York. Ella es una estudiante de honores en la escuela secundaria de Kellenberg, y es una animadora en el equipo de porristas. Trabaja con niños en el club de gimnasia artística y mantiene una fe tremenda en Dios. A ella le encanta esquiar, ir a los conciertos, acampar con su familia y viajar.
A solo sus los 15 años de edad comenzó su travesía con el cáncer. El día 1 de febrero del 2020, Sophia fue al doctor; y lo que se suponía que era un simple chequeo rutinario, se convirtió en una diagnosis de Leucemia. Sophia comenzó inmediatamente las evaluaciones médicas y los tratamientos para combatir la leucemia linfoblástica aguda de células B. Sophia pasará muchísimo tiempo en el hospital de niños Cohen Children's Medical Center para luego continuar con su tratamiento médico en su hogar. Sophia ya se ha hecho los exámenes médicos más necesarios; se le ha puesto un reservorio venoso subcutáneo, y ha comenzado los tratamientos de quimioterapia.
Sophia está rodeada de personas que la aman: su mamá y su papá, sus abuelos, sus hermanos, sus tíos y primos, sus amigos y su escuela. Aquellos se encuentran animandola en este proceso que durará años.
La leucemia es una enfermedad que atrae a muchos doctores, enfermeras, examenes, escáners médicos, agujas, medicina, aburrimiento, y una cantidad de información y términos médicos incomprensibles. Esta enfermedad no es una carrera, sino que es una maratón. Esperamos que esta página nos ayude a comunicarles toda la información del cáncer infantil con el que está luchando Sophia.
